FAQ
Tallow Balm
What is tallow balm, and what are its benefits for the skin?
Tallow cream is made from tallow (rendered animal fat) and jojoba oil, rich in fatty acids like oleic and stearic acids. Its benefits include deep moisturisation, skin barrier protection, nourishment with vitamins, compatibility with most skin types, anti-inflammatory properties, quick absorbency, and versatility for use on face and body. It provides effective hydration, protection, and a healthy complexion.
Can tallow balm be used on all skin types, including sensitive skin?
Of course! Tallow cream is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Its rich fatty acids and nourishing properties make it gentle yet effective, providing deep hydration and soothing relief without irritation.
Can I use tallow cream on my face?
Absolutely! Tallow balm is great for your face. It's perfectly balanced, so it won't feel heavy or clog your pores.
Is tallow balm safe for babies and children?
Yes! Especially babies and young children with sensitive skin. Many find it effective for treating cradle cap and diaper rash, among other new-born skin conditions. We recommend the Original unscented version (no essential oils added) - this will be the best option for your precious bub.
Is tallow balm safe for pregnant women?
Yes! Our Lavender and Frankincense balms are highly diluted and are safe to use for pregnant women, however, if you're worried or have extra sensitive skin, we recommend going with the Original unscented version, which contains only tallow and jojoba oil (both ingredients are extremely gentle on skin).
How often should I use tallow cream in my skincare routine?
You can use tallow cream in your skincare routine once or twice daily, depending on your skin's needs and preferences. Adjust frequency based on how your skin responds. Tallow cream works best when maximum moisture is sealed into the skin, which is typically at the last step of your morning or evening skincare routine when your skin is still slightly damp.
How long will it last?
Handcrafted with tallow and jojoba oil, our tallow cream has a long shelf life of 6 months when stored in a cool and dry place, without the need for preservatives or chemical emulsifiers, which are linked to hormone and endocrine disruption.
Why does my tallow balm have a slightly grainy texture?
Our tallow is a completely natural product made using the same recipe every time. Grass-fed beef tallow is similar in composition to wax; it can solidify in colder temperatures or feel "grainy" during temperature changes. If you're bothered by the graininess, warm the product in your hands before applying to your skin. It will melt with your body heat, leaving your skin feeling nourished and radiant.
Tallow Soap
Is tallow soap suitable for individuals with acne-prone skin?
Yes! Tallow soap is fantastic for acne-prone skin. Its gentle cleansing properties help remove excess oil and impurities without drying out the skin, while its natural fats can help moisturise and balance sebum production. Many of our customers with acne-prone skin have found tallow soap to be soothing and effective in managing breakouts.
Can tallow soap be used as a shampoo bar for hair washing?
Absolutely! Tallow soap doubles perfectly as a shampoo bar for hair washing. Its gentle cleansing properties effectively remove dirt and excess oils from the scalp and hair without stripping away natural oils. Plus, its nourishing ingredients can help promote healthy hair growth and maintain scalp health. Many of our customers love using tallow soap as a versatile solution for their skincare and hair care needs.
How long does a bar of tallow soap typically last with regular use?
A bar of tallow soap typically lasts quite a while with regular use. The exact duration can vary depending on factors such as frequency of use and how much lather is produced per use. Generally, though, customers find that a single bar can last anywhere from two to six months, making it a long-lasting and economical choice for daily cleansing.
