You want your skin to look good, but you don’t know how. I get it. We've all been there. Let's start with what NOT to do.
Big Brand Skincare and Pharma companies have been trying to convince us for decades that the answer lies in paying for products that are full of toxic chemicals.
But who actually needs 20+ chemicals in one skincare product?
It turns out that these chemicals can actually exacerbate your skin issues.
Even worse, many of these chemicals are hormone disruptors, which can actually impact your health on a much deeper level. Take the following from this article
"Certain ingredients... such as avobenzone and oxybenzone, have also been found to absorb directly into the bloodstream—as well as chemical molecules like parabens and phthalates that mimic hormones and are distributed throughout the body. The effect of chronic chemical exposure from cosmetics on long-term health isn't very clear, but it's definitely an argument for the importance of clean beauty."
People are tricked into buying six different products, one for acne, one for cleansing, one for moisturising, one for under-eye bags, another for wrinkles etc.
Where does it end?
The truth is skin care is not a buy to win game.
It's simply taking care of yourself and using high quality and natural ingredients where it counts.
Anyway, now that we've discussed why NOT to use mainstream skincare to fix your issues, let's have a look at what actually works and doesn't cause harm in the process.
Skincare Hack no.1 - Steam your Face
Ok, let's get down to the good stuff. Is it good to steam your face?
Absolutely!
Allow me to explain:
Steaming your face opens up pores, facilitating the removal of dirt, bacteria, and toxins with a cleanser or exfoliant.
This helps prevent acne by eliminating acne-causing agents. You can achieve a facial steam at home using a facial steamer, hot shower, or by placing your face over a bowl of hot water, covering it with a towel.
After steaming, cleanse and exfoliate your skin. It's that simple, I recommend doing it for about ten minutes, as long as it doesn't feel too hot or uncomfortable.
I usually do this in the morning before my cold shower. It feels like a sauna for your face. Check out this article for an-depth look at facial steaming.
Skincare Hack no.2 - Drink Lemon Water
Drinking lemon water aids in detoxifying your body.
Lemons are rich in Vitamin C, known for its anti-aging properties.
Kickstart your day with a glass of water mixed with half a lemon's juice for radiant, model-like skin. Check out these results after just one week. Lemon water is also packed with antioxidants and other nutrients that support overall health.
Lemons have an alkalizing effect on the body, helping to balance your pH levels. An optimal pH balance can help prevent acne and other skin issues, allowing your skin to look it's best.
On top of all this, lemon water helps to neutralize free radicals that can damage skin cells and lead to premature aging.
Regular consumption of lemon water can contribute to a brighter and more youthful complexion by promoting collagen production, which helps to maintain skin elasticity and firmness.
Additionally, the detoxifying properties of lemon water can aid in flushing out toxins from the body, leading to clearer and healthier skin. Its natural acidity also acts as a gentle exfoliant, helping to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, which can prevent acne breakouts and promote a smoother texture.
Incorporating a daily glass of lemon water into your morning routine is a simple and effective way to support your skin's health and achieve that coveted glow from within. Simple I know, but very effective.
Conclusion
I know it seems too good to be true. And it sort of is... because there is a lot more to achieving clear skin than drinking lemon water and steaming your face but these two tricks are amazing for your skin health and a great, natural way to start your journey to glowing skin.
This weeks assignment is to cut out processed sugars (I'll cover this soon) and to drink lemon water every day. I also want you to start your morning with a facial steam. Good luck!
Next week, I'll go over some more tactics for achieving clear skin, especially how to use sleep to fix your skin issues...
See you soon:)
